FISHING
BROWN TROUT
Browns are the wearier species of trout in New Zealand and can be found as sea run in river mouths, or residing in cool water rivers. These fish are notoriously difficult to deceive on the fly, even when you are fishing some of the best freshwater spots on offer. Brown trout can also be caught at the famous Twizel and Tekapo canals, growing to mammoth proportions
The fishing season is restricted, a license is required and in most areas it begins in October, continuing until the end of April. Bag limits apply.
RAINBOW TROUT
With their distinguished colours and fighting attitude, Rainbow Trout are one of the most exciting freshwater sports fish to hook. Easier to catch than Browns these fish are found throughout freshwater rivers, and are also found in the Twizel and Tekapo canals

CHINOOK SALMON
The Chinook Salmon is the largest freshwater sports fish in New Zealand, and are confined to only a few of the larger South Island rivers. Salmon can be caught as either land-locked or as sea run. The salmon run is a major attraction beginning in December or January with peak activity in March.
